SHIDA-09-8
Shidaizumi Brewery Sakes

On Wednesday June 3rd, six breweries located in the centre of Shizuoka Prefecture held their 17th Annual Event, Shida Heiya Bishu Story 2009 in Yaizu City at Shofukaku Hotel.

SHIDA-09-1

This has become a real event in recent years, for which the 400 seats are sold out months before the event in spite of very few seats reserved for special guests like John Gauntner, the foreign authority on Japanese Sake who has to come all the way form Kamakura.
This time I was spared from making the kampai speech (John took care of that!) and could concentrate on the event on the full, taking my time to say hello to everyone and visit every stand for a hearty taste of some sublime brews!

SHIDA-09-2
Aoshima Brewery (Kikuyoi/Fujieda City)

SHIDA-09-3
Sugii Brewery (Suginishiki/Fujieda City)

SHIDA-09-4
Isojiman Brewery (Yaizu City)

SHIDA-09-5
Oomuraya Brewery (Wakatake/Shimada City)

SHIDA-09-6
Hatsukame Brewery (Okabe Cho)

SHIDA-09-7
Shidaizumi Brewery (Fujieda City)

SHIDA-09-9

Took the time to take a pic of a new brand by Oomuraya Brewery to commemorate the new Mount Fuji-Shizuoka Airport in Shimada City!

SHIDA-09-11

The hotel served us an excellnet Japanese meal!

SHIDA-09-12

Including Sashimi!

SHIDA-09-13

And Sushi!

Looking forward to participating to next year’s event!
Before that I will make sure to visit all those breweries again!

    Hai, Mr. Robert…
still remember me? Its Tita from Indonesia..
my novel still on progress, a good one, because i have so many great information from your site :)

    my question is…
does sake doesn’t have any trademark? like Coca Cola, as we know a soda drink. Pepsi, etc.
i’m quite confuse with the name you write on this article… does Sugii or Isojiman is the name for the sake? Or is a name of the maker?

    Thank u…

    best regards,

    tita

    Dear Tita!
    Greetings!
Sorry for the delay, beeen very busy recently with writing and teaching!
Sake does not have trademark like Coca Cola.
Sake is produced by more than 1,400 individual breweries of very variable sizes.
Each brewery has its own registered name.
Sometimes the brewery’s name is the same as the sake brand they make, but more than half make a sake whose name is differnet from the Brewery’s name.
Ther is no law forcing the breweries to use the same name.
For example in Shizuoka Prefecture (the best in Japan, incidentally):
Isojiman is both the name of the Brewery and sake.
Sugii is the name of the Brewery but Suginishiki is the name of the sake.
Aoshima is the name of the Brewery but Kikuyoi is the name of the sake
    And so on.
    Cheers, Robert-Gilles

I want to taste some really old sake… at the source.. in a brandy snifter if possible. like an aged chateau Y’quem.
